Taylor Bennett Returned to Summerfest in Milwaukee and Reflects on the Progress of his Career

Milwaukee Welcomed Bennett Back

Among the various performers starting off the opening weekend of Summerfest in Milwaukee, Taylor Bennett returned to the festival grounds showcasing the progress he’s made in his career and creativity.

Bennett previously performed at Summerfest in the summer of 2021 after his rock album, “The American Reject”, was released. This year Bennet showcased a new style and the progress he’s made as an artist.

“I think the difference is probably like I’m a little bit more comfortable within the music that I create,” said Bennett. “I feel like the biggest difference is comfortability, and then the shows are different now like we got dancers. So just growth.”

Exploring Multiple Genres

The artist has been settling more into his Chicago roots exploring juke music, Hip-Hop, and R&B in his current songs. Bennett believes his music goes beyond what marketing expects people to like and allows people to be free in their expression.

“We’re all like these pallets and we all have the ability to create rainbows and use as many different colors as we want,” said Bennett. “Sometimes we get too caught up in what we’re supposed to be doing or what the idea of who we are is supposed to be, so for me, it’s really important to go through all those genres.”

Balancing His Lifestyle

Bennett attributes much of his success to the discipline and motivation it takes to be a good boss to others and work with his team, holding himself to the same standards as the people around him.

“Being your own boss you gotta wake up at like 6 a.m., you gotta go to sleep late, it’s not like you have to get into the weeds and everything but it’s like an overseeing aspect that’s like a 24/7 responsibility,” he said.

Additionally, Bennett believes that it’s collaboration and community in his music that has made his work unique.
