Helping Black People See the World
According to the Pew Research Center, Black Americans are much less likely to have ever traveled abroad (49%) compared to White Americans (75%). We Be Abroad is changing these statistics by making traveling abroad accessible, affordable, and enjoyable.
We Be Abroad is a Black and woman-owned international travel group based in Milwaukee; it is a subsidiary of Full Circle Television, a media platform started by Kayla Lewis-Allen.
Since 2022, We Be Abroad has taken Black individuals, mainly from Milwaukee, around the world during Black History Month. The group’s most recent trip was spent in Thailand for a week. Over the years, We Be Abroad has exposed almost 100 Black people to places many think are unattainable.
“I just know it’s changing lives and changing perspectives,” said Lewis-Allen.

We Be Abroad prides itself on its affordability. The travel group gives people eight months to pay for the trip through low-cost monthly payments, similar to Klarna payments.
Lewis-Allen ensures her travelers feel safe and in community. We Be Abroad travelers are added to a group chat and are invited to Zoom calls to get a jump start on connecting before meeting in person.
“Community is the most important thing to us,” said Lewis-Allen.
Lewis-Allen partners with certified travel agent Melanie from The Traveling Auntie to give We Be Abroad travelers the best experiences.
We Be Abroad in Thailand – Tigers, Elephants, Phi Phi Island
The 2025 We Be Abroad trip was held from February 19-24, 2025 and took 25 Black individuals to Phuket, Thailand. The trip included six days and five nights at a five-star hotel, roundtrip airport transportation, and a certain amount of meals. The trip also included activities like a boat ride through the ocean to visit the Phi Phi Islands, the Phuket City Tour with Tigers, a Yacht ride, the beach club, and a visit to the elephant sanctuary.
A professional photographer was available on certain days of the trip.
Travelers paid a $300 deposit with the option of a $100 discount if paid early. Travelers then paid an average of $317/month (double/triple occupancy) or $384/month (single occupancy) for seven months. Flights were not included.
This was Kweku TeAngelo Cargile Jr. and his wife Kahina Cargile’s first We Be Abroad trip. Celebrating six years of marriage, they fulfilled childhood dreams—his with tigers, hers with elephants.
“Easily one of the best trips we’ve been on,” said. Cargile Jr. “I think me and my wife would go again.”

One of his favorite parts about the experience was the opportunity to build community. On the first night, We Be Abroad hosted a FCTV (Full Circle Television) Game Night. Despite their long flights, they played a name game, reinforcing the community Lewis-Allen fosters through the Full Circle Television brand, even abroad.
“The team did a really good job of bringing us together…you really are building community,” said Cargile Jr. “…we are communal people. That’s what we come from…we’ve lost components of that and community building like this, in the sense of travel, is a way to expand our view of the world.”
The couple announced their first pregnancy with elephant photos during the We Be Abroad elephant sanctuary visit, posting on their anniversary, February 23, 2025.

From Traveling the Country to the World
Lewis-Allen spent her childhood traveling with her family, state to state, attending her cousin’s graduations. Lewis-Allen began traveling abroad after getting passports with her husband Marcus Lewis-Allen in 2017, starting in Jamaica and later visiting Canada, Paris, Rome, Mexico, and St. Thomas—outside of the We Be Abroad trips.
“From there that’s all we wanted to do,” said Lewis-Allen. “It let me know that it’s so much more out there.”

A few years ago, Lewis-Allen quickly organized the We Be Abroad Paris trip, proving skeptics wrong. Seven joined, leading to 47 in Egypt the next year. Based on feedback, she capped group sizes—13 went to Curaçao and 25 to Thailand.
