Akira Toriyama, The Creator of Dragon Ball Z, is Remembered Globally as One of The Most Influential Manga Authors of All Time

Akira Toriyama was the mastermind behind one of the most popular anime and universes to enter pop culture, the Dragon Ball universe. Since the 1980s, anime has been one of Japan’s most successful products to hit the global market and has entertained generations of anime fans with the fantasy adventures of Son Goku and his quest for the seven dragon balls.

Though best known for the Dragon Ball series, Toriyama made his manga debut in 1975 with “Wonder Island”, an adventure comic strip published in Weekly Shonan Jump Magazine and his first major success was his Dr.Slump series that took off in the 80s.

“Thanks to the support of so many people worldwide, he has been able to continue his creative activities for over 45 years. We hope that Akira Toriyama’s unique world of creation continues to be loved by everyone for a long time to come,” said the Bird Studios, Toriyama’s production studio in a press statement.

Toriyama’s legacy has been solidified and now his fans from all parts of the world are taking the chance to thank one of their most beloved creators for the years of entertainment he gave to them.

“I remember watching these videos online, seeing Dragon Balls reach in Spanish-speaking countries very touching,” said one X user. “Here in Texas, we all love DBZ. My friends and I in elementary school would talk about it every day. Toriyama’s reach is everywhere.”

Social media platforms have been taken over by memes, posts, and videos in various languages describing Toriyama’s positive impact on their lives, recalling moments when the show has created bonds and new connections through the art of anime.

“He was a great man whom people unanimously loved, and he created a great legacy that people will remember him by,” said another X user.

The influence of the Dragon Ball creator can be felt widely throughout the anime world as it has inspired numerous popular shows such as One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach.
